Dr. Kimberly Walpert earned her medical degree at Tulane University School of Medicine. She completed a general surgery internship at the University of Tennessee at Memphis and a neurosurgical residency at The University of Tennessee and Semmes-Murphey Clinic in Memphis.
Dr. Walpert is a fellow of the American Association of Neurosurgery and a member of the Neurological Society of America. She holds an appointment to the NCAA Committee on Competitive Safeguards and is an assistant clinical professor of neurosurgery at the University of Georgia Health Sciences Campus. She has a special interest in minimally invasive, microscopic treatment of spine disorders, head injury and radiosurgery and image-guidance in surgery for brain tumors.
Dr. Sankey comes to Piedmont Athens Neurosurgery after completing his medical degree at Johns Hopkins University followed by neurosurgery residency and complex spine fellowship at Duke University Medical Center. He is board eligible in neurosurgery.
Dr. Sankey treats a wide array of neurologic disorders, including degenerative spine disease, spinal deformity, brain and spinal trauma, and tumors of the nervous system. He has developed significant expertise in minimally invasive spine surgery during his fellowship.
Dr. Shashikant Patil joined Piedmont Physicians Neurosurgery after having served as a Neurosurgeon at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas for the last 6 years. He's treated many patients with complex spine and brain problems. He has special interests in minimally invasive methods for treatment of spinal disorders, complex spine instrumentation and reconstruction for adult spinal deformity, spine and brain tumors, peripheral nerve surgery, and motion preserving treatment of degenerative spines.
Dr. Patil is Board Certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgeons and is a fellow of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons. He earned his medical degree from Kasturba Medical College in Mangalore India and went on to train in neurosurgery at LSU Health Sciences Center, The University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and the Hague and Leiden University Medical Center.
Board-Certified Family Nurse Practitioner with 14 years of neurosurgical experience. Donna holds her Masters Degree in Nursing from Medical College of Georgia and is a Licensed Nurse Practitioner and a certified Family Nurse Practitioner.
Lauren E. Fesperman, DNP, AGACNP-BC is a board-certified Nurse Practitioner specializing in the Acute Care of Adults and Geriatrics. She will be providing high quality health care to Neurosurgical patients with issues varying from peripheral nerve injuries to cranial and spinal trauma or abnormalities such a degenerative disease of the spine, traumatic brain injuries and brain tumors.
Lauren earned her Doctorate in Nursing from Augusta University in May 2020 and is certified by American Nursing Credentialing Center. In 2015, she graduated from Georgia College in Milledgeville with her Bachelor’s in Nursing and has been working in the Athens area as a nurse since!
In her spare time, she enjoys working out at Orange Theory, online shopping and traveling to see her family in South Georgia and her twin sister in Birmingham, Alabama.
Stephanie grew up in Athens, GA where she graduated from Cedar Shoals High School. She earned her B.S. in Nursing, at the Medical College of Georgia. She worked as a registered nurse in the neurosurgical field, mainly in the Neuro ICU for over 6 years before furthering her education at Georgia Regents University. She graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Master of Nursing Family Nurse Practitioner degree in 2015. She holds professional membership to the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).
