Juliana Vera Ortiz, M.D. is a Pediatric Endocrinologist, board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and is licensed in Peru and Georgia. She is an active member of the Pediatric Endocrine Society, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Colegio Medico del Peru. Dr. Vera Ortiz attended the Grace Medical Mission and during her fellowship, was a speaker at JDRF. Dr. Vera Ortiz has special interests in type 1 diabetes, pubertal and growth disorders.
Sabrina René, M.D., has been a board-certified Endocrinologist since 2000. She joined Piedmont Physicians Endocrinology in 2008. Dr. René was the only endocrinologist affiliated with The Cancer Treatment Centers of America Southeastern Division from 2013 to 2018. She has given numerous talks throughout Georgia and Florida addressing the management of thyroid disease, diabetes mellitus and its precursor insulin resistance. In 2017, Dr. Rene was named, “Top Doctors of America” in the field of endocrinology. She volunteers at the Coweta Samaritan Clinic on a quarterly basis. Dr. René is a member of The American Diabetes Association, The Endocrine Society, The American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, The National Medical Association and The Atlanta Women’s Medical Alliance. Dr. René is married and lives in Newnan. Her hobbies include travel, music, arts and yoga. She has sung in her church choir and is active in promoting wellness throughout the community.
Charlie Farmer, MD, earned his medical degree from Mercer University School of Medicine and completed his residency at Wellstar Kennestone Regional Medical Center and fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He received his undergraduate degree in biology from the University of Georgia and is board certified in internal medicine and board eligible in endocrinology. Dr. Farmer has been practicing medicine for 5 years. Prior to joining Piedmont, Dr. Farmer was practicing in Marietta, GA followed by Birmingham, AL. Dr. Farmer specializes in diabetes and thyroid disorders. Dr. Farmer has a special interest in type 1 diabetes.
In his spare time, Dr. Farmer enjoys spending time with family. He enjoys Georgia football and playing basketball and tennis.
Dr. Farmer is accepting new patients and welcomes most major insurance plans.
Karen Secor, PA-C, is a licensed Physician Assistant at Piedmont Physicians Endocrinology with 20 years of professional experience. She obtained her Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Nebraska and earned a Bachelor of Medical Science and Biology from St. Louis University and Wake Forest University, respectively. She is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
Karen is married with three boys. She is active in Scouting and her church.
