Don Nakayama, MD is Board Certified in Surgery and Pediatric Surgery. Renowned pediatric surgeon, researcher & medical educator Don Nakayama, M.D., MBA, has been appointed senior associate dean of Mercer University School of Medicine’s Columbus campus and medical director of pediatric surgery at Piedmont Columbus Regional. He will lead the development of the Pediatric Surgery program at the Children’s Hospital at Piedmont Columbus Midtown. He is currently editor-in-chief of The American Surgeon, and assistant editor of the Journal of Pediatric Surgery. He is a member of the American Pediatric Surgical Association and American Board of Surgery, as well as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

Whitney Batchelor, MSN, RN, CPNP-AC/PC has over twelve years professional experience as a registered nurse, 5 of which were spent as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in a Pediatric Emergency room. In addition, Whitney has worked with Neonatal Intensive Care Units, Neonatal PICC teams and as a Neonatal Transport Nurse. Her experience also includes time with an Orthopaedic and General Surgical team.
Whitney earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Alabama and her Acute/Primary Pediatric Nurse Practitioner degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She is certified by the Pediatric NP Acute Care and Primary Care board.
In her spare time, Whitney enjoys exercising, being active, watching her children play soccer and coaching their teams. She also enjoys reading books and spending time with her husband.
