Dr. McCracken is a board-certified, fellowship trained Neurosurgical Oncologist who specializes in the surgical treatment of primary and metastatic tumors affecting the brain, pituitary gland, spine and spinal cord, and skull-base. He is well-versed in many different surgical approaches including open and minimally invasive craniotomies, endoscopic approaches to the skull base and pituitary gland, and stereotactic radiosurgery with both Gamma Knife and Linear Accelerator based technology. His goal in every surgery is maximizing extent of tumor resection while preserving neurological function using complex neuromonitoring techniques. He is an expert in cortical and subcortical motor mapping and awake craniotomies for language identification and preservation. He currently serves as the Director of Stereotactic Radiosurgery at Piedmont Atlanta Hospital.
His team prides itself on an integrated, multi-disciplinary care of patients with a close working relationship with Neuro-Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Neuro-Pathology, Neurology, and Physical and Occupational Therapy. He is an advocate for promoting research through translational clinical trials and adapting innovative surgical technologies to help bring the best care to patients from all over the Southeast. Dr. McCracken currently serves on a multitude of investigational clinical trials for glioblastoma, metastatic brain disease, and meningioma. He is an advocate for the use of innovative surgical therapies such as GammaTile brachytherapy and the imaging agent Gleolan (5-ALA). He is one of the leading surgeons in the country implanting GammaTile for patients with newly diagnosed and recurrent glioblastoma, brain metastases, and malignant meningiomas.
Dr. McCracken also treats facial pain known as Trigeminal Neuralgia. Through a combination of medications, surgical microvascular decompression, stereotactic radiosurgery, or percutaneous ablative type procedures he can provide a solution to almost all patient experiencing this disease.
He is a strong supporter of the Southeastern Brain Tumor Foundation and the American Brain Tumor Association. He is a member of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, The American Association of Neurological Surgeons, and the Georgia Neurosurgical Society. He will serve as the President of the Georgia Neurosurgical Society from 2024-2025.

Dr McCracken is phenomenal! He is welcoming, warm and easy to talk to. He listens to all of my concerns and approaches them as if I am his family member. I am very pleased with his bedside manner!!!
