A native of College Park, Ga., Dr. Mclean is a graduate of Oxford College and Emory University, where he received a bachelor's degree in chemistry. During his time at Emory University, he became a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. He completed his medical degree at Howard University College of Medicine in Washington, D.C. While there, he was awarded several scholarships for academic excellence and served as a student member of the ACP DC Chapter.
Dr. Mclean completed his residency in internal medicine at Barnes Jewish Hospital at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Mo. During his residency, he served as resident recruitment leader for the Underrepresented Minority Recruitment Committee and was a board member of the Washington University Minority Medical Association. He completed his gastroenterology fellowship at the University of California in San Francisco, serving as the first Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Taskforce Chief Fellow for the fellowship. Dr. Mclean also completed a second fellowship in Advanced Endoscopy at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles.
In addition to several presentations at national gastroenterology conferences, Dr. Mclean has been published in peer-reviewed journals including the Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology, Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, Digestive Diseases and Sciences, and Inflammatory Bowel Diseases. He has contributed to the Gastrointestinal Disorders chapters of the textbook "Current Medical Diagnosis & Treatment" for 2021 and 2022. Dr. Mclean is a member of numerous medical associations, including the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Gastroenterological Association, the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and the Association of Black Gastroenterologists and Hepatologists. His areas of interest include pancreaticobiliary diseases and interventional endoscopy.
