Shivam Desai, M.D., is a fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeon specialized in diagnosing and treating hip and knee conditions. His primary area of expertise is total joint replacement surgery as well as non-operative care. He has extensive training in minimally invasive surgery focused on rapid recovery as well as robotic assisted total joints. His practice also includes general orthopaedics and fracture care.
Dr. Desai grew up in Greenville, South Carolina, but spent many of his summers visiting family in Newnan. He attended Duke University for college where he was a recipient of several academic scholarships. He then went to medical school at Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in Charleston. While at MUSC, he was selected into the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society and was awarded several merit-based scholarships. He moved to Baltimore, Maryland to complete his orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Maryland Medical System which included training at the world-renowned R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center and Johns Hopkins Hospital. Dr. Desai subsequently completed a dedicated Joint Replacement fellowship in Adelaide, Australia at Flinders Medical Centre where he learned the latest advancements in robotics, computer navigation, and complex joint reconstruction from surgeons from across the world.
He has published multiple articles and presented at national meetings in order to advance the field of orthopaedics and optimize outcomes for his patients. He is an active participant in the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS), and International Congress for Joint Reconstruction (ICJR). Dr. Desai believes in using the latest evidence-based treatments in order to get patients back to doing what they love with or without surgery.
Dr. Desai and his wife are excited to return to Georgia and be closer to family. In their spare time, they enjoy spending time outdoors playing tennis, hiking, and traveling.

Very satisfied. After reviewing my chart, X-rays and speaking directly to me on how I occupy my time, he spoke to me on what needs to happen and my feelings about the surgery. He was professional, courteous and patient. Easy to understand.
