Stephen M. McCollam, M.D., joined Peachtree Orthopedics in 1988. He specializes in treatment of problems of the upper extremity - hand, shoulder and elbow. Dr. McCollam is the past president of Peachtree Orthopedics and has been named one of the top orthopedic hand surgeons in Atlanta for the past 7 years from 2010 - 2016. He completed his orthopedic training at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. He also completed additional training in hand and upper extremity surgery, as evidenced by his fellowship at Indiana University/St. Vincent's Hospital in Indianapolis. Dr. McCollam received a scholarship as an AO International Upper Extremity Fellow at the University of Bern in Switzerland. He currently serves as a content editor for the American Society for Surgery of the Hand's Hande learning portal, and was recently appointed as chair for the society's quality metrics committee which will focus on developing quality and performance measures for hand surgery in the United States. Dr. McCollam also sits on the performance measures committee of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He is the past chairman of the department of orthopedics for Piedmont Hospital and is a past member of its board of directors, having served for six years. He is the past president of the Georgia Orthopaedic Society. Dr. McCollam is also a past president of the Georgia Society for Surgery of the Hand. He served as an oral examiner for the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and was a reviewer for the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. In addition, Dr. McCollam served on the Board of Councilors of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and is past chairman of its committee on regulatory and legislative affairs; he also serves on the Tulane University School of Science and Engineering board of advisors. Over the course of the past two decades, he has served in various advisory capacities to the State Board of worker's; Compensation, including most recently as a member of the legislative committee. His humanitarian efforts include volunteering his time at the Hospital Albert Schweitzer in Haiti, which he has done since 1989.
