Piedmont Physicians Surgical Specialists Columbus specializes in the comprehensive care of patients undergoing elective or routine surgery, as well as those with emergency surgical conditions. We evaluate patients prior to surgery in outpatient locations, the emergency department or the hospital, depending on the urgency of their condition. We perform general surgical procedures using either minimally invasive techniques when appropriate or more traditional open surgical techniques if required. We have fellowship-trained surgeons with emphasis on stroke, carotid artery disease, aneurysmal disease and peripheral vascular disease. We also treat mesenteric and renal artery disease.

Meagan Mahoney, M.D., is a general surgeon with critical care and surgical trauma expertise. She earned bachelor degrees in biochemistry and molecular biology from Mississippi State University and her Doctor of Medicine at the University of Mississippi Medical Center where she also completed her general surgery residency and a surgical critical care fellowship. Dr. Mahoney is certified in both Fundamentals of Endoscopic and Laparoscopic Surgery and is Board-Eligible for Surgical Critical Care. She is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the Association of Women Surgeons, the James D. Hardy Society and the Society of Critical Care Medicine.
Meagan, a Mississippi native, moved to Columbus with her husband, Holt. In her free time, Meagan enjoys cooking, gardening and traveling.
Mellissa Ward, MD is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada and is board certified in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care. She holds professional memberships in the Trauma Association of Canada, the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, the Association of Women Surgeons, and the American College of Surgeons.
Dr. Ward has published several peer-reviewed publications, abstracts and presentations with a variety of journals and research posters.
Matthew Barnes, MD is board-certified by The American Board of Surgery in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care. He is a member of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Barnes' clinical interests include emergency general surgery, trauma surgery, elective general surgery, robotic surgery and surgical critical care. Dr. Barnes has publications and participated in quality improvement initiatives including Complex Recurrent Incisional Hernias, Surgical Stabilization of Rib Fractures in Adults, Recognition and Management of Delirium in the ICU, and Hemodynamic Principles and Practice for Critical Care.
Robert Jenks, M.D., FACS , is a board certified surgeon with an area of special interest and heavy training in laparoscopy, robotics and trauma care. He attended medical school at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine and completed his general surgery residency at the State University of New York at Buffalo. Dr. Jenks is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
Edmund “Mac” Molnar, M.D., is a board certified surgeon. He received his medical degree from Mercer University School of Medicine and completed his residency and internship at the Medical College of Georgia.
