Michael Hoosien, MD MSc, received his medical degree from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. He continued his training with an internal medicine residency at the University of Miami and Jackson Memorial Hospital, a post-doctoral fellowship in molecular cardiology at the Miller School of Medicine, followed by fellowships in cardiovascular medicine and cardiac electrophysiology at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. He also holds a masters degree in biotechnology and bioinformatics from Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Hoosien is board certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular diseases. He is bilingual and fluent in both English and German.

Dr. Hoosien treats patients with cardiac arrhythmias. He has a special interest in catheter ablation of atrial fibrillation, management of supraventricular and ventricular tachycardia, and cardiac resynchronization therapy.

In his spare time, Dr. Hoosien enjoys reading, cooking, traveling, and art.

Dr. Karimianpour joins the section of Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology at Piedmont Heart Institute from South Carolina. He grew up in Virginia where he later obtained his medical degree. He then completed his residency training at Cleveland Clinic, followed by fellowships in Cardiovascular Disease and Cardiac Electrophysiology at the Medical University of South Carolina, where he served as Chief Fellow in both training programs. His clinical interests include catheter ablation of complex arrhythmias as well as cardiac device implantation and management. Dr. Karimianpour has authored several peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, and has presented his award-winning work at multiple national professional society gatherings.

Dr. Karimianpour subspecializes in heart rhythm disorders and minimally invasive surgical procedures to treat abnormal heart rhythms. Conditions treated include atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, atrial tachycardia, supraventricular tachycardia, premature ventricular contractions, ventricular tachycardia, ventricular fibrillation, inherited arrhythmias, bradycardia, heart block, catheter ablation of atrial and ventricular arrhythmias, implantation of transvenous pacemakers, leadless pacemakers, implantation of transvenous cardiac defibrillators, subcutaneous defibrillators, transvenous laser and mechanical lead extraction.

Dr. Karimianpour has a special interest in treatment of ventricular tachycardia and sudden cardiac death. Dr. Karimianpour joins Piedmont Heart Institute with a passion and vision to provide high-quality, efficient, and modern health care to the citizens of Georgia and beyond.

In his spare time, Dr. Karimianpour enjoys traveling abroad and exploring new countries, cultures and foods. Dr. Karimianpour is accepting new patients and welcomes most major insurance plans.

Dr. Wickliffe specializes in Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology. A graduate of the Emory University School of Medicine, he completed his internal medicine residency, cardiology fellowship, and cardiac electrophysiology fellowship at Emory University Hospital. Awarded an Outstanding Teaching Resident by the Emory University School of Medicine, he was also named an Outstanding Teaching Fellow. Sandeep Goyal, MBBS, earned his medical degree from Maulana Azad Medical College in New Delhi, India. He completed his cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology fellowships at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, Tenn. His internal medicine residency was fulfilled at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine and Boston University School of Medicine. Prior to joining Piedmont Heart, Dr. Goyal served as the Chief Clinical Fellow of cardiac electrophysiology at Vanderbilt. Dr. Goyal is board certified in internal medicine & cardiology. He is a member of the American Medical Association, American College of Cardiology and the Heart Rhythm Society. Dr. Goyal provides full spectrum of electrophysiology services with special interest in comprehensive management of atrial fibrillation and laser lead extraction. Dr. Smith earned his medical degree, with high honors, from the University of Tennessee in Memphis, TN. He completed an internal medicine internship and residency and was a clinical fellow in cardiology at the University of Tennessee Affiliated Hospitals. Subsequently, he completed a fellowship in cardiac electrophysiology and pacing at Case Western Reserve University, University Hospitals of Cleveland. He completed his undergraduate education at Freed-Hardeman College in Henderson, TN, and obtained a Master of Science degree in Microbiology while concurrently enrolled at UTCHS. Dr. Smith served as an assistant professor of cardiovascular medicine. He was the director of clinical electrophysiology laboratory at the University of Kentucky Medical Center. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in cardiovascular disease and clinical cardiac electrophysiology and by the North America Society of Pacing and Electrophysiology. Dr. Smith is an affiliate member of the American College of Physicians and is a member of the American Medical Association and the Heart Rhythm Society. He is fellow of the American College of Cardiology. Dr. Smith currently practices at Piedmont Heart Institute Physicians, Buckhead campus.

Ashish Bhimani, M.D., received his medical degree from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. He then completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Michigan. From there, Dr. Bhimani was fellowship trained in cardiovascular disease and clinical cardiac electrophysiology at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center in Cleveland, OH. Prior to joining Piedmont Heart, Dr. Bhimani was Assistant Professor of Medicine at University of Texas Medical Branch where he was Director of the Atrial Fibrillation Program and Associate Program Director for the Cardiology Fellowship Program. Dr. Bhimani is board certified in clinical cardiac electrophysiology, cardiovascular disease and internal medicine. He is a member of the American Heart Association, and a Fellow of the Heart Rhythm Society and the American College of Cardiology. Dr. Bhimani has a special interest in cardiac electrophysiology education, cardiac arrhythmia management and cardiac device implantation. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family, travelling, and being outdoors.

Dr. Deering graduated summa cum laude from the Yale University School of Medicine in 1980. He completed his medical and cardiac electrophysiology training at Yale and Tufts New England Medical Center. After serving as an assistant clinical professor of medicine at Yale between 1986 and 1989 he moved to Atlanta and joined the staff of Piedmont Hospital, where he has practiced since that time. Dr. Deering is board-certified in internal medicine, cardiology and clinical cardiac electrophysiology. He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology, the American College of Physicians and the Heart Rhythm Society. Dr. Deering has participated in a number of arrhythmia research trials and remains active in cardiac arrhythmia research. He serves as a reviewer for several major cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology journals. He has authored or co-authored numerous articles on a variety of arrhythmia-related topics. He has served as a speaker and moderator at many national and international cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology meetings. He is an active member of the Heart Rhythm Society (HRS); has served on a number of HRS committees and task forces; and presently serves as chair of the HRS Membership Committee. Dr. Deering's primary area of interest is centered upon the diagnosis of cardiac arrhythmias and the treatment and education of patients with cardiac arrhythmias and congestive heart failure. He currently is in practice with the Piedmont Heart Institute Physicians group and based at the Piedmont Hospital campus. He does see patients in a number of arrhythmia outreach clinics at several additional Piedmont Heart Institute locations.
