Mellissa Ward, MD is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada and is board certified in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care. She holds professional memberships in the Trauma Association of Canada, the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, the Association of Women Surgeons, and the American College of Surgeons.
Dr. Ward has published several peer-reviewed publications, abstracts and presentations with a variety of journals and research posters.
R. Scott Hannay, MD, FACS, is the Chief of Trauma and Surgical Critical Care at the Piedmont Columbus Regional Midtown Campus. Dr. Hannay joined Piedmont Physicians Surgical Specialists in August 2001. He has held a wide variety of Medical Staff leadership positions including Trauma Medical Director, Chief of Surgical Critical Care, Chairman of Surgery, Chief of Surgery, and Chief of the Medical Staff. Dr. Hannay received his doctorate from the Medical College of Georgia and completed a General Surgery Residency at West Virginia University and completed a Fellowship in Surgical Critical Care at Emory University/Grady Memorial Hospital. Dr. Hannay is board certified in both Surgery and Surgical Critical Care.
Meagan Mahoney, M.D., is a general surgeon with critical care and surgical trauma expertise. She earned bachelor degrees in biochemistry and molecular biology from Mississippi State University and her Doctor of Medicine at the University of Mississippi Medical Center where she also completed her general surgery residency and a surgical critical care fellowship. Dr. Mahoney is certified in both Fundamentals of Endoscopic and Laparoscopic Surgery and is Board-Eligible for Surgical Critical Care. She is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the Association of Women Surgeons, the James D. Hardy Society and the Society of Critical Care Medicine.
Meagan, a Mississippi native, moved to Columbus with her husband, Holt. In her free time, Meagan enjoys cooking, gardening and traveling.
Matthew Barnes, MD is board-certified by The American Board of Surgery in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care. He is a member of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Barnes' clinical interests include emergency general surgery, trauma surgery, elective general surgery, robotic surgery and surgical critical care. Dr. Barnes has publications and participated in quality improvement initiatives including Complex Recurrent Incisional Hernias, Surgical Stabilization of Rib Fractures in Adults, Recognition and Management of Delirium in the ICU, and Hemodynamic Principles and Practice for Critical Care.
Blake Bowden Barnes, MD is Board Certified by The American Board of Surgery in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care and is a member of the American College of Surgeons. Her clinical interests include emergency and elective general surgery, trauma surgery, robotic surgery, and surgical critical care. Dr. Barnes’ publications, presentations, and previous research topics include Cost-Effective Management of Hospital Admissions for Snakebites, Demographic and Clinical Factors Associated with Suicide in Gastric Cancer, Gender Differences in Peak Interleukin 6 Levels Following Trauma, Surgical Nutrition, and hemodynamic monitoring in the ICU.
Chatora Berry, N.P. is an experienced and knowledgeable nurse practitioner who provides high quality primary, acute and specialty health care services across a woman’s life span. Berry completed her BSN from Columbus State University in Columbus, GA and her MSN from South University in Montgomery, AL. Berry is also certified in PALS, ACLS and BLS.
In her free time, Chatora enjoys enjoy spending time with her family and traveling.
Stephanie Robertson, NP is a board-certified Adult/Geriatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner who received her MSN from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in Birmingham, AL after she earned her BSN from the University of Michigan-Flint in Flint, MI.
Stephanie has 5 years of clinical experience as a NP and 19 total in healthcare. She started at Methodist LeBonheur University Hospital, Memphis, TN in the Cardiac Surgery ICU. She cared for pt's in Cardiac ICU using skills in intubation/ventilator management, arterial lines, central lines, vascaths and trialysis catheter insertion and maintenance. Stephanie has also worked in Med/Surg ICU at Piedmont Columbus-Midtown, Hospital Medicine at both Piedmont Columbus-Midtown and Northside as well as at St Francis-Emory. She most recently held a role as First Assist in OR for Orthopaedic Spine surgery at the Hughston Clinic - Columbus, GA where she provided services to perioperative patients ordering testing, diagnosing and treating them in the clinic and throughout the perioperative period.
In her free time, she enjoys time with her family camping, spending time at the beach and watching her children's various sports activities.
Lauren K. Perez, FNP-C, is a family nurse practitioner who has over 17 years clinical experience. She is board certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, is a BLS and ACLS certified instructor with additional certification in Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS). She is a member of the Emergency Nurses Association and the Society of Trauma Nurses. As trauma coordinator for a Level 2 Community Trauma Program, Lauren provides oversight of trauma registry data submitted to the National Trauma Data Base and the Trauma Quality Improvement project. She conducts classroom, bedside and community education on injury prevention. Lauren is returning to Columbus Regional after five years of experience working in Georgia’s only American College of Surgeons Level 1 trauma center and ED.
In her spare time, Lauren enjoys local/global travel and spending time with family and friends.
